Yılmaz Ali

Yılmaz Ali is a 1940 Turkish crime film. Written and directed by Faruk Kenç, one of the first directors to transition from theater to cinema, it is considered his second feature film. The screenplay is adapted from a work by Vâlâ Nureddin.

The story revolves around the murder of a wealthy woman in her home, and the subsequent efforts of police detective Yılmaz Ali and a female journalist to uncover the truth; the narrative also includes a pursuit of a smuggling ring. Filmed in approximately three and a half months, the movie premiered on April 12, 1940. Considered one of the early attempts at a detective story in Turkish cinema, it stands out with its action-packed scenes and use of outdoor locations compared to previous films, and features new faces in the film industry in its cast. Ha-Ka Film handled its distribution. Among the actors in the film are Mümtaz Ener and Cahit Irgat.
