Uygar Tamer — Biography

Uygar Tamer was born in Ankara in 1971 and moved to Zurich at the age of eleven when her mother was posted there as an attaché; educated at Turkish, French and Swiss schools, she learned six languages and trained as an actress at the European Film Actor School in Zurich from 1996 to 1998, later completing a degree in Social Work at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in 2013.

She had her first role at age ten in Ali Özgentürk's At (My Horse), and won the Swiss Film Institute's Quartz award for Best Young Actress for playing Şükran in the 2008 film Dirty Money, L'Infiltré, the same year she appeared in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. In 2014 she played an asylum seeker in Peter Luisi's Swiss Heroes, which won the Audience Award at the Locarno Film Festival.

She reached a much wider audience in 2016 as Adile Şimşek, wife of the first NSU murder victim Enver Şimşek, in Züli Aladağ's Die Opfer – Vergesst mich nicht, the second film in the NSU television trilogy, a role that earned her the German Acting Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2017. She has continued her career in projects such as the 2023 film Öğretmenler Odası (The Teachers' Lounge), and lives in Zurich.
