Yves Rénier — Biography

French-Swiss actor, director, screenwriter and voice artist Yves Rénier was born in Bern on 29 September 1942, the son of playwright Max Régnier. He made his screen debut in 1961 in Claude Autant-Lara's film of The Count of Monte Cristo, then appeared four years later opposite Juliette Gréco in Claude Barma's mini-series Belphégor. His first big television hit came in 1966, playing journalist Pierre Ribard in Les Globe-trotters.

He became truly famous, however, for the title role of a police chief in Commissaire Moulin, which he led from 1976 to 2006. He also lent his voice to French dubs of American stars such as Burt Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones, Paul Hogan and Chuck Norris, and had two daughters, Samantha and Lola.

Having undergone heart surgery three years earlier, Rénier died of a heart attack, according to his wife, on 24 April 2021 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, at the age of 78.
