Ekrem Bora — Biography

Ekrem Bora, born Ekrem Şerif Uçak, was a Turkish film and television actor born on March 4, 1932, in Ankara, who died on April 1, 2012, in Istanbul. Just forty days old when his father died in a training-flight accident, he moved with his family to Istanbul, and after primary school trained as a typesetter and bookbinder at the Sultanahmet State Printing House course.

In 1953 he won an acting contest run by Yıldız magazine but was called up for military service before he could appear on screen; after his discharge he made his debut in Alın Yazısı (1956). Over a career of roughly 150 films, nearly all of his roles were dubbed by other voice actors, chiefly Saadettin Erbil and Levent Dönmez. His credits include Acı Hayat, Gözleri Ömre Bedel, Yalnız Değiliz, Denizciler Geliyor, Yakılacak Kitap, Ayrılık, Kanlı Para, Çılgınlar, Baskın, Unutulmayanlar, Soğuktu ve Yağmur Çiseliyordu, and Yumuşak Ten, and in later years he took television roles in Gümüş and Makber.

He won the Golden Orange Best Actor award twice, for Sürtük in 1966 and for Soğuktu ve Yağmur Çiseliyordu in 1991, and later received lifetime achievement honors from the Golden Orange and Golden Boll festivals. Bora died of heart failure at a hospital in Kadıköy at age 80 and was buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
