Engin Günaydın — Biography

Engin Günaydın is a Turkish actor, screenwriter and comedian born in 1972 in the Turhal district of Tokat, raised partly in Erbaa and educated in Kocaeli. A prize he won in a school theatre competition steered him toward the conservatory; he began at Hacettepe University and completed his training at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Conservatory. He made his professional stage debut in 1996 with the play Otogargara, then became known for the character Zabıta İrfan on the show "Bir Demet Tiyatro".

In 2001 his performance in "Yazgı" won him the Best Supporting Actor award at the Ankara Film Festival, and between 2005 and 2009 he became a national star as Burhan Altıntop in Gülse Birsel's sitcom "Avrupa Yakası". He wrote and starred in "Vavien" (2009), which won screenplay awards from Yeşilçam, SİYAD and the Istanbul Film Festival, and shared the Best Actor award at the Adana Golden Boll festival, among others, for "Yeraltı" (2012). His role as Gül Ağa in "Muhteşem Yüzyıl" (2011) brought him international recognition, and he led the cast of "Galip Derviş" (2013-2014).

He has also performed the one-man show "O Hikayedeki Mal Benim" and appeared in the 2024 BKM production "Hücreler". After writing and starring in the 2022 Netflix series "Andropoz", he is now appearing in "2 Aile Arasında", the sequel to "Aile Arasında" (2017); he has recently said he left Istanbul to settle in Foça, in İzmir province.
