Kamer Sadık — Biography

Yeşilçam knew Kamer Sadık as "Kamer Baba"; the Turkish film actor of Armenian descent appeared as a character player in well over a hundred productions. His registered name was Kamer Sadıkyan. He is remembered above all for the role of Sabri Amca in the 1977 film Sakar Şakir, and he died in 1986 while working on a film.

Born in Istanbul, he graduated from Pangaltı High School and spoke French as well as Turkish and Armenian. He entered cinema in the mid-1950s with Çifte Kavrulmuş. In the first phase he acted in many Yeşilçam films and photo-romances; in 1961 he took a part in the Belgian production Tintin and the Golden Fleece, shot largely in Istanbul, and in the mid-1960s he appeared in films such as Tophaneli Osman, Sokakların Kanunu and Pantolon Bankası. The second phase was the 1970s: Red Kit, Atını Seven Kovboy (as a banker), Sakar Şakir and Korkusuz Korkak belong to this period. In 1971, when no actress could be found for Sinderella Saraylar Meleği, he played the part of the sorceress himself. In those years he was also among the names who took part in Yeşilçam's wave of sex films, and he appeared with Faik Coşkun in a bank commercial.

In his films he was dubbed by Zafer Önen, since Yeşilçam films were shot silent and dubbed afterwards. In the last phase he acted in 1980s productions such as Dönme Dolap and Tarzan Rıfkı, and on 24 September 1986 he died in Kayseri of a heart attack suffered during the shooting of Tarzan Rıfkı.
