Kamer Sadık — Biography

Born Kamer Sadıkyan, Kamer Sadık came into the world in 1911 in Istanbul (then Constantinople) and was a Turkish film actor of Armenian descent, educated at Pangaltı High School and fluent in Armenian, Turkish and French. Known in Yeşilçam by the nickname "Kamer Baba," he began his film career in 1954 with Çifte Kavrulmuş and, in 1961, appeared in the Belgian production Tenten ve Altın Post, most of which was filmed in Istanbul.

A character actor in more than a hundred productions, he is remembered above all for playing Sabri Amca in the 1977 film Sakar Şakir; in 1971, when no actress could be found for a part in Sinderella Saraylar Meleği, he took on the role of the "Sorceress" himself. He was also remembered for a well-known 1970s Akbank television commercial alongside Faik Coşkun, and — following the era's practice of shooting Yeşilçam films silent and dubbing them afterward — his voice on screen was provided by Zafer Önen.

Kamer Sadık died on 24 September 1986 in Kayseri of a heart attack suffered during the filming of Tarzan Rıfkı.
