Mine Teber — Biography

Gülsüm (Gül) in Bizimkiler, one of Turkish television's longest-running series, is the role Turkish Cypriot actress Mine Teber is best known for. Her career spans more than three decades across film, series and presenting on television, and she is still taking on new projects.

A graduate of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory, she entered the industry as an assistant director to Osman F. Seden. She first appeared in front of the camera in 1989 in Bizimkiler and played Gülsüm until 2002, around fourteen seasons, a role that made her a familiar face to a wide audience. In those years she also appeared in Yazlıkçılar (1993) and Duruşma (1999). Afterwards she continued with Gönül (2006), the Geniş Aile series and Hükümet Kadın 2 (2013, as Sidar). She is especially remembered as Muazzez in Geniş Aile (2009) and its sequels Yapıştır (2015), Her Türlü (2016) and Komşu Kızı (2019), and she also appeared in the film Ayla (2017).

From 2019 she played Aynur in the TRT 1 series Kalk Gidelim, then appeared in Kanunsuz Topraklar (2021-2022, as Fatma), Kod Adı Kırlangıç, Yalı Çapkını and Savrulan Zaman. Married with one child, she divides her time between Istanbul and Girne.

Their work through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Mine Teber's television career rests on two long-running family comedies: Gülsüm Haktanır in Bizimkiler and Muazzez Kirişçi in Geniş Aile. Geniş Aile also moves to the cinema with Geniş Aile Yapıştır and Geniş Aile: Her Türlü. In my view the price of this warm comedy mould is that there is little of Teber in another tone, which is why a war drama like Ayla and Kertenkele stand out.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

Home viewing with Mine Teber: Geniş Aile is the everyday comedy of a big family; Hayat Bilgisi is a family, teen and comedy mix; Bizimkiler is seven households in one Istanbul apartment block. Ayla is a heavy film of more than two hours about a real episode of the Korean War; watch it with grown-ups and teenagers.

History & Society Lens Asks about the period, the social background and what the work reflects.

Mine Teber's roles revolve around shared living spaces: an apartment block shared by seven households in Bizimkiler, a crowded family in Geniş Aile, a school in Hayat Bilgisi. Gülsüm, Muazzez and Gülşen Öğretmen are different people, but each exists alongside those around her as neighbour, relative or teacher. In my view her television builds this shared way of living more than any single character.
