Sadi Celil Cengiz — Biography

Sadi Celil Cengiz is an actor of Circassian descent, known for the comedy series İşler Güçler, in which he appeared alongside Ahmet Kural and Murat Cemcir. The series gave him his first leading role and brought his name to a wide audience. Credited as a writer and director as well as an actor, he has gone on working in television series and films.

His schooling was unrelated to acting: after two years at Ordu Science High School he graduated from Çarşamba High School, finished the Faculty of Business at Istanbul University, did his military service in 2007-2008 as a reserve officer and worked for a time as a customs officer. He has appeared in around sixty short films. One of these, Ayrılık, came second in a short film competition and reached the final at the Golden Orange Film Festival.

On television, after İşler Güçler he took part in productions such as Sürgün İnek (as Burak), Kadın İşi Banka Soygunu, Nadide Hayat (as Kerem), Damat Takımı (as Besim) and Eyvah Karım, and an agent in Poyraz Karayel: Küresel Sermaye (2017), and in Benim Tatlı Yalanım (2019) he played Rafet Doğan. Born in the Çarşamba district of Samsun, his father is a former coach of Çarşambaspor.

Their work through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Sadi Celil Cengiz's turning point is İşler Güçler, the story of three actors playing under their own names beside Ahmet Kural and Murat Cemcir, which gave him his first leading role. In my view what works in the show is the trio's mutually leaning comedy. Telat Abi in Leyla ile Mecnun then places the same actor in a far stranger, absurdist comic world.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

On the film side Sadi Celil Cengiz has yet to find a match for his lead in İşler Güçler. Bana Masal Anlatma is built around Rıza and Kara Bela around Kudret, and in them Cengiz stands beside the centre as Haktan and the receptionist. In my view these BKM comedies leave too little room for an actor who sets his own rhythm on television.
