Whomever the heart loves (Gönül Kimi Severse) (translated)

Gönül Kimi Severse ("Whomever the Heart Loves") is a black-and-white Turkish film from 1959 that blends drama with comedy. Asaf Tengiz both directed the picture and wrote its screenplay, adapting a novel by Oğuz Özdeş; it was produced by Yoakim Filmerides for Güven Film, with cinematography by Menasi Filmeridis and a score by Zeki Duygulu. The film runs 104 minutes.

Muzaffer Tema leads the cast as Ahmet, alongside Serpil Gül as Filiz and comedian Feridun Karakaya in his popular Cilalı İbo persona. The supporting lineup features familiar names of the era such as Turgut Özatay, Avni Dilligil, Osman Alyanak, Melahat İçli and Danyal Topatan. The story follows a married man caught up in a forbidden affair and the devoted wife who sacrifices much to bring him back home.

A curiosity of the production is its use of footage from the final matches between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe in the 1959 season, the very first season of Turkey's national football league; players including Metin Oktay and Şenol Birol appear as themselves.
