Jargon (Jargo) (translated)

Jargo is a 2004 German coming-of-age drama written and directed by María Sólrún Sigurðardóttir. It follows a young man who grew up in Saudi Arabia and, after moving to Germany, struggles with culture shock while trying to find his footing in an unfamiliar environment. Oktay Özdemir and Udo Kier lead the cast.

The film was first shown in the „14Plus“ youth programme of the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival. It went on to take both the Best Film prize and the Audience Award in the Teenarena section of the Sarajevo Film Festival, and it earned a Best Nordic Newcomer nomination at Norway's Amanda awards, where it lost to Hip Hip Hora!. Its German television premiere followed on 25 August 2005 as part of the „Debüt im Ersten“ series.
