When Fate Connects (Kader Bağlayınca) (translated)
Yeşilçam's Kader Bağlayınca (When Fate Connects) dates from 1976 and was directed by Orhan Aksoy. It mixes comedy, sentimental drama and a love triangle, and runs 87 minutes in colour on 35 mm. Erler Film produced it, with Türker İnanoğlu and Sehbani among the producers. It stars Tarık Akan and Gülşen Bubikoğlu.
The story unfolds around a nightclub. Murat, a photographer, and Zeynep, a flower seller, are lovers who quarrel constantly. A mob boss, Bekir, survives an attack thanks to Zeynep, then keeps her close and falls for her. Zeynep at first plays along to make Murat jealous, then sees things getting serious. After a lavish party Bekir takes her on a blue cruise by yacht, where Murat is hiding aboard and tension builds. Reza Beyk Imanverdi plays Bekir, with Kadir Savun, Turgut Özatay and Elif Pektaş in the cast and Nükhet Duru and Hayko as guest performers.
Fuat Özlüer and Erdoğan Tünaş wrote the screenplay and Çetin Gürtop shot it. The film sits between comedy and sentimental drama, balancing the hard face of the underworld against a light fable in which love wins out. Its main settings are the nightclub and a sea voyage.
