The Mine (Maden)

Directed and written by Yavuz Özkan, Maden (The Mine) is a 1978 Turkish film that follows a group of miners who, led by İlyas, organize against their employer and a company-backed union after a string of deaths caused by unsafe working conditions. Cüneyt Arkın plays İlyas and Tarık Akan plays Nurettin, with Hale Soygazi appearing as Halkacı Kadın; the score was composed by Zülfü Livaneli.
