Mıstık

Mıstık is a 1971 Turkish film directed by Ülkü Erakalın. Set in olden times and steeped in the atmosphere of a folk tale, the story follows a poor villager who takes to the road in search of a cure for his sick mother's ailment, only to be thrown into a dungeon by the land's cruel king. The screenplay was written by Bülent Oran, one of Yeşilçam's most prolific writers, and the film was produced by Ümit Utku. Müjdat Gezen, then in the early years of his stage and screen career, plays the title character. Blending comedy and drama in the register of a fairy tale, the film belongs to the era when Yeşilçam drew freely on popular folk storytelling.
