Ms. Dila (Dila Hanım) (translated)

Adapted from a work by Necati Cumalı, Dila Hanım is a Yeşilçam romantic drama from 1977. Orhan Aksoy directed from a script by Safa Önal, and İrfan Ünal produced it for Akün Film. Türkân Şoray and Kadir İnanır share the lead roles, and the film is counted among the best love stories of Turkish cinema and among the pair's finest work. It opened on 1 January 1978 and runs 86 minutes.

The story begins with the vow of revenge sworn by Dila Hanım (Türkân Şoray), whose husband was killed by Karadağlı Rıza over a land dispute. She does not know the killer. One day she finds a wounded man by a stream and helps him; he introduces himself as Yakup the miller. Without knowing he is really Rıza (Kadir İnanır), she falls in love with him, and he is deeply attached to her too. When the truth emerges, Dila Hanım must choose between avenging her husband as custom demands and giving up the love she cannot renounce. Erol Taş (Kara Haydar), Hüseyin Peyda (Kocabey) and Kadir Savun also appear.

Cahit Berkay composed the music and Kaya Ererez was the cinematographer. Filming took place in Nevşehir, in Cappadocia's Zelve Valley. A television series of the same name began in 2012, with Erkan Petekkaya as Karadağlı Rıza.
