Sorry to Bother You

Sorry to Bother You is a 2018 American science fiction black comedy written and directed by musician Boots Riley in his feature directorial debut. Set in an alternate version of Oakland, California, the film follows Cassius Green, a young African-American telemarketer who discovers that using a "white voice" is the key to success at his job. His sudden rise sweeps him into a disturbing corporate conspiracy, forcing him to choose between chasing profit and joining his activist friends who are trying to unionize.

Filming began in Oakland in June 2017, and the movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2018, before its US theatrical release by Annapurna Pictures on July 6, 2018. The ensemble cast includes Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Danny Glover, Steven Yeun, and Armie Hammer. The film earned praise for Riley's writing and direction, its performances, and its soundtrack.
