Volga Sorgu — Biography

Volga Hüseyin Sorgu Tekinoğlu was born on 28 January 1981 in the Ovacık district of Tunceli, one of three children of a retired teacher and a homemaker, and is of Alevi Zaza background. A graduate of Istanbul Bilgi University's Cinema-TV department, he entered film with the 2002 movie Sır Çocukları and, from the mid-2000s, also appeared on television in series such as Kampüsistan, Avrupa Yakası and Şeytan Ayrıntıda Gizlidir. After the films Barda and Gitmek: My Marlon and Brando, his 2010 film Mar won three awards at the Malatya International Film Festival. In 2011 he moved behind the camera as writer-director of Kaledeki Yalnızlık, while also appearing in 72. Koğuş, Unutma Beni İstanbul and Kar Yağmadan Önce and playing Macit in the series Veda. He continued his career in Bahar İsyancıdır, Yeni Dünya, Geçmiş and Mehmed: Bir Cihan Fatihi, and in 2020 reached an international production with the Netflix docudrama series Rise of Empires: Ottoman. He has more recently appeared in the film Oy'una Geldik and the series P.A.Y.
