Emin Gürsoy — Biography

Moving from the stage to television, Turkish actor Emin Gürsoy became one of its familiar supporting faces. Audiences knew him best as Kuşçu in the series Deli Yürek, and in later years he stayed active in long-running productions such as Kalk Gidelim, Kuruluş Osman and Yeşil Deniz. In 2018 he won the Golden Boll (Altın Koza) for Best Supporting Actor at the 25th International Adana Film Festival for his role in the film Sibel.

Born in the Güney district of Denizli, he graduated from the Theatre Department of the Anadolu University State Conservatory in 1994. He first worked at the state theatres of Antalya and Van, then joined the company of a city theatre and took roles in various plays; in 1996 he attended theatre workshops in Italy. He entered television in the late 1990s with Üvey Baba and Deli Yürek, and played Kuşçu again in the 2001 film Deli Yürek: Bumerang Cehennemi. In the 2000s he appeared in series such as Hayat Bağları, Canım Annem, Genco and Baba Ocağı, and in the films The İmam, Mutluluk and Made in Europe.

From the 2010s his work included the series Bir Yusuf Masalı, Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem and Kalk Gidelim, and the films Kelebeğin Rüyası, Pek Yakında and Kurtuluş Hattı. He played the village headman Sefer Zeytin in Kalk Gidelim, Kumral Abdal in Kuruluş Osman and Mehmet Âkif Ersoy in Kurtuluş Hattı.

Their work through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Kuşçu Hamza is the best showcase of Emin Gürsoy's television work: he held his own as a supporting character in Deli Yürek and was brought back under the same name in the film Deli Yürek: Bumerang Cehennemi. When a figure in an action-and-tension series is carried over to the cinema, it shows, in my view, how much room a supporting part can win in an ensemble.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

İzzettin in Pek Yakında sums up Emin Gürsoy's position in cinema fairly well: a supporting name in a comedy that Cem Yılmaz wrote, directed and stars in, with a large cast around him. In my view star-led films leave a supporting actor little room to leave a mark; his share is clearer in work that leans on his own character, such as Deli Yürek: Bumerang Cehennemi, where he plays Kuşçu again.
