Erol Demiröz was born on 29 May 1940 in Diyarbakır and studied at Ziya Gökalp High School before attending the Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. He began acting with the People's Houses theatre movement in 1961, and after joining Ankara Art Theatre (AST) in 1968 he spent decades there as both actor and director, appearing in hundreds of plays and staging dozens more; that work earned him the Ulvi Uraz Best Director award in 1977.

He entered cinema in Yılmaz Güney's Sürü (1978) and went on to appear in Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde (1980), Hakkari'de Bir Mevsim (1983) and Çark (1987), while also writing scripts, including for Turkey's first children's television series, Harun. Later in his career he became known for roles in Mahsun Kırmızıgül's Beyaz Melek (2007) and Güneşi Gördüm (2009), and he also appeared in Sadece Sen (2014), Mucize (2015), Vezir Parmağı (2017) and Mucize 2: Aşk (2019).

Demiröz died on 18 April 2021 at the age of 81; his death was widely mourned across Turkey's theatre and film community, including by Kırmızıgül.
