Henri Crémieux — Biography
A Marseille native born on 19 July 1896, Henri Crémieux spent half a century, from 1930 until shortly before his death on 10 May 1980, as one of French cinema's most reliable supporting players, credited on more than a hundred pictures as well as some screenwriting work. Producers typically cast him as an establishment figure — a magistrate, lawyer, notary or physician — a pattern visible in the examining-judge parts he took in The Seventh Juror and Assassin in the Phonebook.
Two auteur partnerships stand out in that long list of credits: Jean Cocteau put him in Orfe and its late companion piece Testament of Orpheus, while Jacques Demy cast him in the musical fantasy Peau d'Âne and in The Young Girls of Rochefort. He was still working at the very end of his life, turning up in Au bout du bout du banc, Rien ne va plus and Heart to Heart.
