Uncle (Dayı) (translated)

Dayı is a 1974 Turkish adventure-drama film produced and directed by Melih Gülgen from a screenplay by Nurettin Erişen. The 81-minute color production, made by Gülgen Film, was released in February 1975. Cüneyt Arkın stars as Murat, with Fikret Hakan as his friend Ahmet and Hüseyin Peyda as the mafia boss Fehmi Çok; Selma Güneri, Süleyman Turan and Yıldırım Gencer round out the principal cast.

The story follows Murat, who grew up in poverty in the slums and became a respected university professor. He tutors children from troubled families, steering them toward an honest life, and his reputation eventually reaches mafia leaders whose own children are failing. Despite the objections of his wife Selma and his friend Ahmet, Murat accepts their offer of private lessons, hoping to use the children to destroy the cruel order their fathers built — a task that proves far harder than he imagined.
