Noviembre is a Spanish film from 2003 directed by Achero Mañas, who also shared in writing the screenplay. Alfredo, a young man convinced that art has the power to transform the world, arrives in Madrid driven by the wish to build a free performance that makes people feel truly alive. Joining forces with friends who share his outlook, he founds a street theatre company named Noviembre, the Spanish word for November. The troupe performs throughout the city's squares, parks and streets, makes it a firm rule never to charge its audiences, and aims above all to turn onlookers into active participants in the show. Shot in the style of a mock documentary about the company, the film follows its fortunes across a timeline running from 1997 to 2040, probing the connection between actors and their public, the commodification of artistic work, and theatre's capacity to spark change.
