Ayşin Atav — Biography

The career of Ayşin Atav, a Turkish stage and film actress, ran through Yeşilçam from the 1960s into the 1990s, and she is also known for voice work and dubbing direction. In popular memory she lives on above all as the nurse Sevil in the Kemal Sunal comedy Korkusuz Korkak (1979).

She began her career in 1965 with the Istanbul City Theatres and spent many years in its company. Among her early film roles were Vatan Kurtaran Aslan (1966) and Fakir ve Mağrur (1966). She worked heavily through the 1970s: Kezban Roma'da, Kezban Paris'te, Severek Ayrılalım (1971, as Şule), Sev Kardeşim (1972), Çılgın Gangster (1973), Anasının Gözü (1974), Aslan Bacanak (1977) and Petrol Kralları (1978, as Ayten) are the main titles of that decade. She went on to appear in dozens of films in the late 1980s and 1990s and in series such as Hanımın Çiftliği, and also acted in commercials and worked as a presenter.

She studied voice work with Adalet Cimcoz, Toron Karacaoğlu, Pekcan Koşar, Kamran Usluer and Nevin Akkaya, voiced characters in nearly five hundred films and directed the dubbing of more than twenty. Her aunt was the stage actress Şükriye Atav, her husband is the actor Dinçer Çekmez and her daughter is the journalist Tuba Atav. After a long break she returned to the stage in 2023, eleven years later, in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres production Sivrisinekler.
