Aytaç Arman — Biography

Born Veysel İnce (22 June 1949, Adana – 26 February 2019, Istanbul), Aytaç Arman finished a boys' vocational art school in Adana and, while studying architecture in Ankara, entered acting through a magazine beauty contest, placing second behind Tarık Akan in a 1971 competition. A part in Yılmaz Güney's Father brought him attention, and he quickly rose to leading roles. His performance in The Enemy, scripted by Güney, won him a Best Actor prize from the Cinema Writers' Association, and he won the same category at the Antalya Golden Orange festival for Night Journey. During the early-1980s military era he was tried before a military court over renaming a magazine he published, and was acquitted; in the late 1990s he served on a Culture Ministry film-review board. He appeared in films such as Bedrana, Her Name Is Vasfiye, The Encounter and Unsent Letters, and in television series including Kara Para Aşk and Adını Feriha Koydum, and received a lifetime achievement honor in 2015. He was married to Radife Baltaoğlu and had a son, and died at 69 of cancer, being buried in his native Adana.
