Ediz Hun — Biography

Ediz Hun was born on 20 November 1940 in Istanbul to a Circassian engineer father and a Rumelian-immigrant teacher mother. After Austrian High School he studied for a time in Germany, then, following a placement in a 1963 Ses magazine contest he entered while home for summer, launched his film career opposite Türkân Şoray and Hülya Koçyiğit in Genç Kızlar. Over the following decade he appeared in more than a hundred films and became one of Yeşilçam's sought-after leading men, before stepping back as the mid-1970s wave of erotic films rose and moving with his family to Norway, where he studied biology and environmental science at the universities of Oslo and Trondheim, graduating near the top of his class. Back in Turkey he went into business, starred in the TRT series Acımak in 1985, and taught ecology at Marmara and later Okan universities. He served as chief advisor to the Ministry of Environment from 1991 to 1993 and, elected to parliament for the Motherland Party in 1999, represented Istanbul until 2002. His film career was crowned with lifetime achievement honors from the Golden Orange (2001), Adana Golden Boll and Sadri Alışık (2012) and Çayda Çıra (2015) festivals, and he has also written books on Istanbul and environmental awareness. He married flight attendant Berna Hun in 1973 and they had two children, Bengü and Burak; now 85, he has remained in the public eye through 2026.

Their work through different eyes

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

The pairing of Ediz Hun and Filiz Akın was one of Yeşilçam's popular couplings, and that warmth shows in Sabah Yıldızı, with its false identity and inheritance scheme, and in Ankara Ekspresi, a drama adapted from a novel. Güllü Geliyor Güllü, opposite Türkan Şoray, shows the same leading man at ease in light romantic comedy. In my view Hun's strength is being a quiet, dependable romantic lead.

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

Ediz Hun's work is mostly romance and drama, so Karateci Kız (1973) stands out as a detour: a film that mixes revenge, crime and martial arts. If you want pace, that is the door, but do not take it for the colour of his career; Hun's real ground is romantic drama.
