Jay Karnes — Biography

Jay Karnes is an American television and film actor from Omaha, Nebraska, who graduated from the University of Kansas in 1989. In the mid-1990s he was a company member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, taking major parts in Love's Labours Lost and Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, and appeared in the films The Joyriders (1999) and The Next Best Thing (2000).

He became widely known from 2002 to 2008 as police investigator Holland "Dutch" Wagenbach on FX's The Shield, then played ATF Agent Josh Kohn on Sons of Anarchy in 2008 and gunrunner Tyler Brennan on Burn Notice from 2009 to 2010. After six seasons as Dr. Cooper Freedman on Private Practice, he took recurring roles as Leo Bergen on Scandal, Jake Novak on Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce and David Sweetzer on I Feel Bad, with guest appearances on series including House, Brothers & Sisters, Criminal Minds and Graceland. He co-created the dark comedy Imposters, receiving a writing credit on six episodes, and on film played Michael Levy in Broken Angel.
