Shahada

Shahada is a 2010 German drama written and directed by Burhan Qurbani. The film runs about 95 minutes and is built as an episodic work, with separate strands that meet. Its title refers to the Islamic profession of faith. It was Qurbani's graduation film at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and was made in German.

The story follows three young German-born Muslims in Berlin whose paths cross. Each is trying to find some middle ground between faith and modern life in contemporary Western society, and their fates collide. Besides Maryam Zaree and Vedat Erincin, the cast includes Carlo Ljubek, Sergej Moya, Anne Ratte-Polle, Burak Yiğit, Gerdy Zint and Ivan Anderson.

In 2010 the film competed for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival and then went on to many other festivals.
