The story begins with two friends, Ali and Cafer, driving carpet-laden trucks over Iran's mountain roads. They overpower bandits who ambush them, but their miserly boss Mehdi brushes off any reward. Needing money for an operation on Cafer's sister, they ask him for help, get a harsh answer, rob his business and run. The flight ruins the friendship for good: Ali receives a heavy prison term, while Cafer slips into a lavish life in Istanbul with the money. Years later Ali learns the truth, escapes and travels to Istanbul to take revenge. There he meets Zeynep, a young woman whose eyesight was restored by surgery, and she turns out to be Cafer's sister. Füruzan plays the dancer Ayşe.

Çetin Gürtop was the cinematographer and Sohban Koloğlu the art director. Sources give the running time as anywhere from ninety to ninety-eight minutes.

Through different eyes

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

A classic Yeşilçam melodrama starring Kartal Tibet, where friendship and betrayal are tightly woven together. A robbery for a sister's operation, a broken friendship, revenge years later and a young woman whose sight has just been restored: every emotional knot you would expect from writers Bülent Oran and Safa Önal is here. There are a few too many coincidences, and Zeynep's identity is tied up too conveniently, in the habit of the time. Still, its moral core, which asks what friendship costs, will win over anyone fond of old cinema.

History & Society Lens Asks about the period, the social background and what the work reflects.

As a Turkish-Iranian co-production, Tahran Macerası is an interesting example of the regional film ties of its time. Iranian actors Cihangir Gaffari and Füruzan made their first steps in Turkish cinema with it. The story itself spans the two countries, moving from drivers hauling carpets along Iran's mountain roads to the flashy life of Istanbul. The clash between a stingy boss and his working drivers treats class in the language of melodrama. Judging by its plot, though, the film is more interested in adventure than in the daily life of either society, so viewers curious about the social side of this encounter may find only a little of it.

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

A revenge story that opens with a bandit ambush and rolls on through a robbery and a prison break: on paper, exactly my thing. Trucks on mountain roads, a man on the run, a reckoning in Istanbul. The catch is that it slides into melodrama, and once romance and family secrets take over, the pace drops. Still fun if you are curious about old Turkish adventure films.
