Ah Güzel İstanbul is a 1981 Turkish film directed by Ömer Kavur, adapted from Füruzan's work of the same name. Kamil, who earns his living as a long-haul truck driver, falls in love with Cevahir, a woman he meets at a brothel he visits with his friends, and rents a home for her. The two dream of marrying, but their financial circumstances make such a marriage impossible. Hoping to build a better life, Kamil accepts a friend's offer of smuggling work. His situation improves slightly through this illegal trade, and when he travels to Mardin to collect contraband goods, he returns carrying fabric for a wedding dress — the symbol of the home they hope to build. Yet Cevahir, worn down by the endless waiting and the emotional strain it brings, leaves the house before dawn. Starring Kadir İnanır and Müjde Ar, the film portrays two people caught between poverty and hope.
