The Secret Face (Gizli Yüz)

Gizli Yüz (The Secret Face) is a 1991 Turkish film directed by Ömer Kavur, with a screenplay by novelist Orhan Pamuk. Pamuk based the script on a story that appears in the "Love Stories on a Snowy Night" chapter of his novel The Black Book, later publishing it separately as its own book in 1992. Zuhal Olcay and Fikret Kuşkan take the lead roles, with Sevda Ferdağ, Savaş Yurttaş and Rutkay Aziz rounding out the cast. The film won best picture and best screenplay at the Antalya Film Festival the year it came out, and it also took best film honors at the Montreal New Cinema Festival that same year. It additionally screened in competition at the 48th Venice International Film Festival. Considered an important entry in Kavur's body of work for its treatment of identity and mystery, the film remains available to stream on MUBI.
