Ablaze (Alev Alev) (translated)

Directed by Halit Refiğ from a screenplay by Erdoğan Tünaş, this 1984 Turkish drama follows yacht captain Murat (Tarık Akan) and his fiancée Alev (Gülşen Bubikoğlu), who are saving money to marry. Murat takes a four-month job captaining the yacht of wealthy businessman Şahin (Cüneyt Arkın). While he is away, Şahin's niece and company manager Ümran falls for him and spends a night with him, while Alev discovers she is pregnant. When a jealous Ümran shoots herself, Murat reluctantly marries her. Alev learns of the marriage from the newspapers, returns to Istanbul, ends her pregnancy and becomes a famous model, then finds her way into Şahin's circle. She and Murat reconcile, but Ümran spies on them and falls into the sea during a confrontation. Believing her dead, the lovers flee; in fact Ümran has survived and plotted with her uncle. The boat carrying Alev and Murat explodes, killing them both, and Şahin takes his own life.
