Forgiveness

Forgiveness (Hebrew title Mechilot, Arabic title Ghufran) is a 2006 Israeli drama film written and directed by Udi Aloni. The story centers on a young American Jew whose father survived the Holocaust. Burdened by his family's painful heritage, he finds himself face to face with the memory of the victims of the Deir Yassin massacre, so that the collective traumas of two peoples converge in a single personal journey. The principal cast features Itay Tiran, Clara Khoury, Moni Moshonov, Makram Khoury and Tamara Mansour. Running about 97 minutes, the film examines the strain between individual recollection and communal memory, along with feelings of guilt and the possibility of absolution. Both of its original-language titles carry the sense of pardon, and the work places reckoning with the past at the heart of its drama.
