Idiot Şaban (Gerzek Şaban) (translated)

Gerzek Şaban is a 1980 Turkish adventure comedy directed by Natuk Baytan from a screenplay by Erdoğan Tünaş. At its core is a case of mistaken identity between two strikingly similar-looking men: a feared and respected mob boss and a poor, ordinary man who scrapes by taking small extra roles on film sets.

Their resemblance sets off a chain of confusion that pulls the humble everyman into the dangerous orbit of the underworld he never belonged to. Kemal Sunal takes on both roles, with Yadigar Ejder, Celal Yonat and Muhteşem Durukan rounding out the cast.

Running about 77 minutes, the picture reflects the identity-swap comedy style typical of the era's popular Turkish cinema. It was produced by Cem Film.
