As If I Am Not There

As If I Am Not There is a 2010 Irish drama film directed by Juanita Wilson, adapted from Slavenka Drakulić's 1999 novel of the same name. Set in the Balkans and shot in the Serbo-Croatian language, it follows a young teacher who arrives in a remote village. When the village is attacked, she is imprisoned and raped alongside the other women, in a story that confronts wartime sexual violence against women during the Bosnian War. The film was chosen as Ireland's submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, though it did not reach the final shortlist. The cast includes Stellan Skarsgård, Natasha Petrovic, Miraj Grbić and Jasna Diklić.
