The Stranger in the Mirror (Aynadaki Yabancı) (translated)

TV Series · 2025 · 4 people

MF Yapım's Turkish series Aynadaki Yabancı aired its first episode on ATV on 4 October 2025. It combines drama, family and romance. Eda Teksöz and Eda Erdek Koçoğlu directed, and the scripts are by Pelin Gülcan, Batuhan Özbay, Berşan Tan and Su Korur. The series ran for a single season of about six weeks and ended with its seventh episode on 15 November 2025. Its English title is The Stranger in the Mirror.

At the centre is Azra, who as the bride of the Karaaslan family leads what looks at first like a fairytale life, until the dark secrets behind the splendour turn it into a nightmare. When she tries to run away with her daughter she pays a heavy price, and she decides that the only way back to her child is to change her face and enter the same house as someone else. Her path crosses that of the successful plastic surgeon Barış Saygıner, and on the operating table it is not only her face but her destiny that is reshaped. The shadows of the past and an impossible love become Azra's greatest test.

Onur Tuna, Simay Barlas and Caner Topçu share the leading roles, and Asuman Dabak is also in the cast.

Through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

A woman who changes her face and enters the same house as someone else to get back to her daughter: Aynadaki Yabancı's premise is pure 'just one more episode' material. Azra's fall from fairytale bride to nightmare grips you early on, and her path crossing that of plastic surgeon Barış Saygıner feeds the impossible-love thread. But the series wrapped after a single season of seven episodes, and a story of identity and a mother's struggle this big hardly seems to have had time to let its characters grow. Worth a try if you want a short binge; if you're after a long-running drama, it may leave you wanting.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

It's about a family, but it's not really one for family viewing. A mother torn from her daughter, dark secrets in the house, a heavy price paid: these are heavy themes for small children. The idea of changing your face through surgery is also hard to explain to kids. Teenagers and adults can watch it as a romantic drama. And since it ends after seven episodes, it doesn't ask for a long commitment.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

Heroes who hide who they are and return to their loved ones as someone else are among the oldest and best-loved veins of Yeşilçam melodrama. Aynadaki Yabancı brings that vein into the present with plastic surgery and a family living in splendour. A mother's struggle to reach her child touches the heart in any era, and on that score I look on the series kindly. Still, in place of the simple feeling of the old films, secrets, splendour and shadows seem piled a little too high here; the real heart, the bond between mother and daughter, risks being pushed into the background by all that crowding.
