In the Name of the Law (Kanun Namına)

Kanun Namına (In the Name of the Law) is a black-and-white Turkish film from 1952, directed by Lütfi Ömer Akad from a screenplay by Osman F. Seden. It runs about 94 minutes. It is regarded as one of the first defining works of the generation known as the "filmmakers' era" that followed Muhsin Ertuğrul, and it is counted among the director's masterpieces.

The story is based on a real event from Istanbul in the years after the Second World War, a love triangle that ended in murder. Ayhan Işık and Gülistan Güzey share the leads, with Muzaffer Tema, Nubar Terziyan, Talat Artemel, Muazzez Arçay, Renan Fosforoğlu, Saadettin Erbil and Rıza Tüzün in the cast.

The film is known as the production that made Ayhan Işık famous. Akad said that working with Işık showed him he had turned someone who had never acted into a screen actor, that it made him understand what cinema really is, and that it proved he had become a director.
