In the Name of the Law (Kanun Namına)

Movie · 1952 · 3 people

Kanun Namına ("In the Name of the Law") is a 1952 Turkish film directed by Ömer Lütfi Akad from a screenplay by Osman F. Seden. Its plot is drawn from an actual love-triangle killing that took place in Istanbul in the years after the Second World War.

Ayhan Işık takes the leading role, with Muzaffer Tema and Nubar Terziyan rounding out the cast. The film is widely seen as the production that turned Işık into a genuine film star, and Akad later described the shoot as the moment he realized he had shaped a real screen actor out of someone with no acting background.

Coming after the era dominated by Muhsin Ertuğrul, Kanun Namına is regarded as one of the first strong statements of the following generation of Turkish filmmakers and remains among Akad's most celebrated early works.
