Brothers (Kardeşler)
Kardeşler is a 2018 drama co-produced by Turkey, Germany and Bulgaria, written and directed by Ömür Atay. The picture had its world premiere in July 2018 at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Its story centers on a tragic event within a single family: a crime results in a sister's death, yet the person who takes the blame is not the actual perpetrator but a younger sibling expected to receive a lighter sentence because of his age. After years behind bars, the young man is conditionally released and returns to his relatives, only to find that guilt keeps him trapped in a kind of imprisonment even as a free man. When a woman who has become close to the family uncovers the secret behind the old death, she too turns into someone the family feels compelled to silence.
The cast includes Caner Şahin, Gözde Mutluer, Cem Zeynel Kılıç and Nihal Koldaş, with cinematography by Emre Tanyıldız and a score composed by Erdem Helvacıoğlu. The film runs approximately 103 minutes.
