A Love Story (Bir Aşk Masalı) (translated)

Bir Aşk Masalı — also known by its Russian title, "My Love, My Sorrow," and alternately as "Farhad and Shirin" — is a 1978 Turkish-Soviet co-production. It was directed by Ajdar Ibrahimov, credited in Turkish-language sources as Ejder İbrahimof, with the Soviet studio Mosfilm partnering alongside the Turkish companies Tuğra Film and Duru Film. The screenplay draws on Nazım Hikmet's play "Legend of Love," itself rooted in the classical Ferhat and Şirin legend of Eastern literature.

Türkân Şoray played the character Banu, while Faruk Peker and Alla Sigalova took on the title roles of Ferhat and Şirin; the Soviet contingent of the cast included Anatoli Papanov, Armen Cigarhanyan, Vladimir Samoylov, and Vsevolod Sanayev. According to Russian-language sources, the film drew more than 25 million viewers on release, placing 15th at the Soviet box office in 1979.
