Debt (Borç)

Movie · 2018 · 3 people

Written and directed by Vuslat Saraçoğlu, the 2018 Turkish drama Borç centers on Tufan, who lives in Eskişehir with his wife Mukaddes and their daughter and earns his living at a small print shop. One night, when their elderly neighbor Huriye suddenly becomes ill, Tufan rushes her to the hospital, and after learning she must not stay alone for some time, he convinces his wife to take the old woman into their home. Yet as his pay from the print shop keeps arriving late and Huriye's visit drags on, the household is gradually squeezed, bringing up questions about where kindness should end and whether people secretly expect something in return for their good deeds. Saraçoğlu's feature debut premiered in the National Competition of the 37th International Istanbul Film Festival, where it took the Golden Tulip as Best Film. Opening in Turkish cinemas on 30 November 2018, the film features Serdar Orçin, Rüçhan Çalışkur and Beyti Engin.
